ABOUT AMBER HARRIS

Hello!

Welcome to my cyber “classroom”.
I’m Amber Harris, your friend and homeschooling coach! My goal is to help you navigate the maze of home school options, and achieve a plan that works for you and your child! The greatest reward, for a homeschooling parent, is building up your child’s confidence while watching them develop a love for learning.

My Education and experience
I am a homeschooling mom (who just so happens to have a M.Ed. or master’s in education from Arizona State University) to three crazy kiddos, author of the Wisteria Jane Hummell series, Autism advocate, and eternal student in this classroom we all call “life”. This blog is my retreat…I come here to share experiences, and to find the humor in all the dusty corners of my life.

I am so Lucky
I always knew I would teach, but never dreamed I would have all three of my kids as students. When I finished my undergraduate degree, in communicative disorders, I knew a master’s degree was my next step. My M.Ed. gave me insights into the public school system that are reserved for teachers. I was taught to be a public school teacher, and I now use those skills in the comfort of my own home with the three most important students in my life.

How I Came to Love Homeschooling…

In October of 2012 my oldest son came home from school and informed me that he had been putting up with bullying since our move from Arizona to Texas in 2010. He no longer felt that life was worth living. That very moment changed my life in ways I never could have imagined. I brought my oldest son home and we began our amazing journey into the world of homeschooling. Now all three of my kiddos are home, and we are officially one of those “homeschooling families”. Homeschooling was never my intention, but the best gifts God gives us seem to come in the most unexpected places. My kiddos and I are growing and learning so much, and best of all… my son has the mischievous twinkle back in his eyes.

My experience changed the way I look at education-it could change yours. My experience in graduate school has given me an interesting perspective on the controversial topic of homeschooling vs. the typical educational process. I have seen both sides, and each has its positives and negatives. I have firsthand experience working in a classroom of 20 students. I understand the ups and downs of a public education, and I am keenly aware of the bumps homeschooling parents face as they navigate new and uncharted territory. This blog is dedicated to supporting all homeschooling parents… through the good times and the bad. It is also a great place for parents and teachers working with children in the public schools. I try to provide ideas and support to all educators.
